What the instructor actually sees

When a trainee starts an evolution, their session appears in your Live Monitor list. Open it and you're looking at their run as it happens: the discharge and intake pressures they're producing, engine RPM, tank level, which valves they've opened and how far, and the event stream — pump engaged, line charged, pressure spike, cavitation warning — in the order it happens. You're watching decisions, not just gauges.

Coaching in the moment vs. reviewing after

Live monitoring earns its keep in two situations. First, early reps: a new operator's first hydrant evolution is worth watching live, because the mistake you see forming (charging the line before establishing supply, chasing pressure with throttle instead of setting the governor) is a 30-second conversation now versus a failed attempt and a rebuild of confidence later. Second, evaluations: watching a checkride live while the platform scores it gives you both the objective record and your own professional judgment for the evaluation form.

For everything else, use the AAR

You can't watch every rep, and you don't need to. Routine practice runs are better reviewed through the After Action Report, which preserves the same gauge timeline and event stream for every attempt automatically. A practical rhythm: watch each trainee live once early on, then manage by AAR and let the completion notifications tell you where to look.
